Ottawa Shopping Tour

If Canada was a city, this would be it!  Itís more than just a marketing slogan Ė it also holds true to the wide variety of attractions and shops that display Canadiana arts and crafts.  Start off with a guided tour of the Grand Hall at the Canadian Museum of Civilization where the culture and art of the West Coast Natives are on display.  Move on to the Inuit Gallery at the National Gallery of Canada to see the collection containing more than 410 sculptures, and 800 prints and drawings.  And just around the corner at the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, over 158,000 photos from Canadian photographers document all aspects of Canadian life.   And then itís time for a little shopping:
  • the Canadian Geographic Boutique, located in the Rideau Centre, presents a wide cross-section of gifts presenting Canadian nature and the natural world;
  • Canadaís Four Corners, located at Sparks and Metcalfe, has exquisite and finely-crafted Canadian crafts and paintings, set in the atmosphere of a newly-renovated heritage building;
  • Snow Goose, also on Sparks Street, specializes in Inuit, aboriginal and handmade Canadian art and crafts;
  • a wide range of Canadian Eskimo carvings, prints, baskets, jewellery and handicrafts can be found at the Inuit Artistsí Shop, with two locations, one in the By Ward Market, and the other in the west end of the city on Merivale Road.
  • And donít forget: museum gift shops, particularly at the National Gallery of Canada and Canadian Museum of Civilization, are wonderful locations to find unique samples of Canadiana gifts and souvenirs.
