By the end of Saturday in Owasso, Claremore had rewritten school records and overwhelmed the competition. Powered by dominant sprint relays, standout individual performances, and depth across nearly every event, the Claremore boys captured the Class 5A East Regional championship by 28 points at Owasso High School. The Lady Zebras added a third-place team finish and a long list of state qualifiers.
The Zebra boys scored 135 points to easily outdistance the field, while the girls finished with 94 points, trailing only champion Tahlequah (128) and runner-up Bishop Kelley. Regional champions, runners-up, and third-place finishers automatically qualified for the state meet, while select fourth- through seventh-place finishers advanced based on statewide qualifying marks.
Mason Fraley led the boys, winning the 400 meters in dominant fashion with a time of 48.54 seconds, more than two seconds faster than the runner-up. He also powered Claremore’s sprint relays to historic performances. The 4×200 relay team of Fraley, Graham Williams, Furious Poole, and Brandon Shaw broke the school record with a time of 1:29.14 while finishing second. Later, the same quartet captured the regional title in the 4×400 with another school-record performance of 3:20.99. The 4×100 team of Jace Hogan, Fraley, Poole, and Shaw also qualified for state with a runner-up finish in 42.86.
Individually, Shaw added a third-place finish in the 400 (51.36) to qualify for state, while Carter Gibson qualified in three distance events. Gibson finished third in both the 800 (2:01.36) and 1600 (4:37.14) before placing second in the 3200 with a time of 10:00.55. Gabriel Rodriguez also advanced in the 3200 with a fifth-place finish in 10:10.92 and qualified as part of the 4×800 relay alongside Alexander Malos, Patrick Mitchell, and Gibson, which placed fourth in 8:39.48. Bryson Hall qualified in both hurdle events, finishing second in the 110 hurdles (15.54) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (41.68).
In field events, Landon King captured a regional title in the discus with a throw of 147 feet, 11 inches and also qualified in the shot put with a third-place finish of 47-11.5. Williams added a state berth in the high jump by clearing 6-2.
On the girls side, Addison Doyle continued her record-breaking season. The junior finished second in the 200 with a school-record time of 24.51, the fourth time she has broken the record this season. Doyle also ran on Claremore’s regional championship 4×400 relay team alongside Lyric Hansen, Bella Hoisington, and Addison Reavis. Their winning time of 4:05.31 set a new school record. The Lady Zebras’ other sprint relays also shined: they qualified in the 4×100 (48.30) with a third-place finish and took second in the 4×200 (1:42.68). Both teams consisted of Ava Jestes, Reavis, Hoisington, and Doyle. Reavis qualified individually in the 100 with a fifth-place finish (12.55), while Chloe Grubbs advanced in the 800 (2:27.64) in fifth and helped the 4×800 relay qualify alongside Jasmin Sandoval, Evelynn Smith, and Hailey Grijalva (10:29.31) with a fourth-place finish. Eleanor Isaacs also punched her ticket to state in the 3200 with a time of 12:42.79, placing sixth.
In field events, Lakyn Fuller finished second in the pole vault to qualify with a height of 9-6, while Karlee Ladd also advanced in the event (8-0). Ava Mills qualified in the high jump in fourth at 4-10, and Lulu Hawkins secured a state berth with a runner-up finish in the discus (112-8). However, not every strong finish was enough to advance. Poole narrowly missed qualification in the high jump, while Audrey Shaw in the 100 hurdles, Aaliyah Carter and Lulu Hawkins in shot put, and Alex Zych in discus all fell short despite scoring team points. Still, Claremore left Owasso with regional hardware, multiple records, and one of the strongest state contingents in Class 5A.
