Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown doubled down on his criticism of NBA officiating on Wednesday, following a $50,000 fine issued by the league earlier this week. The penalty came after Brown voiced his frustration with referees following Boston’s Game 7 playoff loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.
During his Twitch stream, the Celtics forward defended his comments, arguing that concerns over inconsistent officiating are widely shared across the league. “The inconsistency of the officiating between the playoffs and regular season is not just something that’s been talked about by me,” Brown said. “You can fine me, you can continue to fine me, but I care about this. I love the game of basketball. Damn, fine me for that.”
Brown delivered the best statistical season of his career in 2025-26, averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists while helping the Celtics to a 56-26 record despite Jayson Tatum missing significant time recovering from a torn Achilles tendon. Even after Boston’s early playoff exit, Brown remains a cornerstone of the franchise, currently ranking 13th in RealGM’s NBA Player Value Index.
