LONDON, May 7 (China News Service) — The Chinese women’s table tennis team secured a dominant 3-0 victory over South Korea in the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Team Table Tennis Championships held in London on Thursday, booking their spot in the semifinals.
In a commanding performance, China fielded their top players Wang Manyu, Sun Yingsha, and Wang Yidi against a resilient South Korean side. The team displayed consistent form, balanced attacking and defending, and controlled the tempo of the match throughout.
Wang Manyu got the team off to a flying start, sweeping past South Korea’s Shin Yubin with a score of 3-0. Wang dominated from the outset, using aggressive attacks and solid defense to win 11-1, 11-4, and 11-4.
In the second match, Sun Yingsha faced Kim Nayeong in a more challenging contest. After winning the first game, Sun dropped the next two games before adjusting her strategy and regaining her composure. She showcased her solid fundamentals and powerful backhand attacks, winning the next two games 11-4 and 11-9 to clinch a 3-2 comeback victory.
Wang Yidi took on Park Jihyun in the third match, displaying forceful play and quick decision-making. She comfortably took the first two games 11-5 and 11-3. Although she lost the third game 10-12 after a strong fightback from her opponent, Wang sealed the win in the fourth game with an 11-2 victory.
The overall score of 3-0 sent China into the semifinals. The team will now rest and prepare for their next opponent, aiming to continue their pursuit of the championship title.
